Controller
Saint Vincent College currently has an opening for a full-time Controller. This position will be responsible for directing, coordinating, maintaining and controlling an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position and the daily operations of the College, Seminary and Archabbey. Ensures accurate internal and external recording and reporting of financial transactions. Ensures that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory and internal policies and procedures. Monitors department policies and procedures and recommends improvements. Participates in establishing and implementing major goals and objectives of the organization. Maintains the unitized pool for the College's Endowment Fund. Responsible for student accounts.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required, Master’s Degree and/or CPA preferred.
Experience: Five years of accounting experience preferably in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
Essential duties:
- Directs the preparation of daily, monthly, annual and other periodic financial statements and reports. Ensures that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely.
- Ensures effective financial internal controls and continually evaluates established polices and procedures and updates or modifies them when necessary to maintain compliance with evolving regulations, legal requirements and industry trends.
- Directs business office personnel in their daily operations and provides leadership through effective objective setting, delegation and communication.
- Responsible for all financial procedures and records of the organization.
- Assists in the daily managing of the general accounting function of the Business Office.
- Coordinates the annual audit. Ensures that accounting records and reports are in compliance with GAAP and government regulations. Cooperates with and assists external auditors as appropriate.
- Manages College's unitized endowment funds including quarterly market value calculations, annuity valuations and income distributions.
- Facilitates the closing of financial records for the fiscal year end.
- Assists Senior Management in developing short and long-term goals and objectives of the Business Office and analyzing overall institutional needs.
- Manages the Abbey/College's daily cash flow.
- Manages Student Accounts.
Other duties:
- Attend College Board Committee meetings.
- Assists in answering daily questions and concerns of the various departments.
- Carry out special projects and additional responsibilities as directed by the Vice President of Finance & Administration.
- Serve on committees of the College as appointed or elected.
- Other duties as assigned.
