Senior Accountant
Senior Accountant - Plum Borough School District. Senior Accountant starting salary of $55K to $65K based on experience. Benefits include family health insurance and eligibility to participate in the PA state retirement system (PSERS). Bachelor's degree required, associate degree and equivalent prior work experience combined may be considered. Public accounting experience and/or school business experience a plus. Purpose: The following outlines the essential job duties and the expectations, skills, and attributes necessary for this position.
Job Duties:
- Prepare budget transfers throughout the year by reviewing accounts and entering transfers once approved.
- Prepare journal entries throughout the year as needed.
- Prepare year-end close out journal entries, verify consistency with prior years.
- Close out open purchase orders quarterly.
- Reconcile all bank account statements: Payroll, Direct Deposit, PSDLAF, and General Fund account in conjunction with the local auditor on a monthly basis.
- Initiate with Dollar Bank and PSDLAF to prepare all paperwork necessary to establish new accounts, update new Board signatures, and new cash management instructions (wire transfers, ACH transfers, etc.) for new/existing accounts, update facsimile signatures within Prosoft Accounting System, order new rubber stamper for Cafeteria, (prepare letter to Commonwealth of PA advising of facsimile update)
- Compile and/or review monthly financial and payment reports for review at Finance Meeting and approval at Regular Board Meeting
- Assist Chief Financial Officer with AFR and General Fund Budget preparation.
- Maintain a list of fixed assets and make adjustments throughout the year.
- Responsible for working with State and Local Auditors and be available to work with the auditors to answer all questions.
- Calculate and prepare annual salary and budget projections for categorical programs as assigned.
- Assist Chief Financial Officer in the development of inventory systems for District’s purchased supplies.
- Perform internal audits of student activity accounts and booster clubs, make recommendations based on findings.
- Release approved purchase orders and print as appropriate. Serve as purchasing agent for the District with awareness of all state and federal purchasing guidelines.
- Assure accurate and timely submission of quarterly and final grant expenditure reports.
- Oversee accounting software security.
- Review general ledger activity to ensure revenues/expenditures are properly recorded.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly payroll reports and the submission of these reports in a timely order.
- Review bimonthly payroll reports to ensure accuracy of payroll.
- Knowledgeable of all Collective Bargaining Union Contracts, Grievances or M.O.U.’s, Act 93 and Individual Administrator Agreements.
- Attend Collective Bargaining Unit negotiations as requested.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in preparing salary and wage costs during Collective Bargaining Unit negotiations and project annual salaries based upon negotiations.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in reports to School Board related to negotiations and impact on District’s Five-Year Model.
- Attend strategy sessions on behalf of District in preparation for negotiations and update revised proposals to share with negotiations team.
- Serve as Business Office trainer and work with all staff to ensure a continuity of operations plan is in place.
- Be the contact person for District insurance claims, filing reports to insurance company and communications between District and carrier.
- Prepare insurance renewal documents annually for District’s insurance and liability policy.
- Oversee SHARRS reporting and submission.
- Oversee Quarterly and Annual Access Reporting
- Perform other duties as directed by Administrators.
