Part Time Library Public Service Assistant
Saint Vincent College currently has an opening for a Library Public Service Assistant. This is a part-time position with no benefits. This position will assist all Dale P. Latimer Library patrons in locating, obtaining, and the circulation of ·all available Library material. Assist Professional Librarians with other tasks and projects as assigned. Hours of Employment: This position requires evening and weekend availability. Approximate number of hours average between 12-22 hours weekly.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Associates Degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience: Experience using current technology and basic computer applications. 1 to 2years' experience working in a professional or administrative office environment is desired.
Other qualifications: Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, attentive to details, accurate data entry skills, ability to lift up to 25 lbs and climb numerous steps, ability to work with minimal supervision.
Essential duties:
- Assist Library Patrons with Circulation and Reference services, utilizing electronic databases.
- Process requests for patrons and page books from the stacks.
- Enforce Circulation and other Library policies as set by the Director.
- Supervise Work Study students on a limited basis.
- Physical opening and closing of the Library Circulation Desk and stacks.
Other duties:
- Oversee the placement on reserve shelves of Library materials as requested by
College and Seminary Faculty.
- Provide new work study students with on-the-job training.
- Maintain organization of Library materials, utilizing Library of Congress
Classification.
- Assist with projects as assigned by professional librarians.
Special challenges and environment
During evening and weekend hours, Public Service Assistants will work with minimal supervision, and at times, without the assistance of work study students. This position requires the incumbent to interact daily with any member of the Saint Vincent.
Community (student, faculty, administrators, hourly employees of the College and Seminary, and members of the Monastery community) and other patrons.
